iFITS Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 6, 2026

iFITS is a free, open-source app by Derod Deal for viewing astronomy FITS images on iPad.

The short version

iFITS does not collect, store, sell or share any of your personal information. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. iFITS does not connect to the internet.

Your files

FITS files you open stay where you keep them: on your iPad, in iCloud Drive, or in another location you choose in the Files app. When you save annotations or regions, iFITS writes them into the FITS file you opened, in that same location. The developer never receives your files or anything about them.

Camera

iFITS asks for camera access only to place a 3-D data cube in your room in AR mode. The camera image is used live on your iPad by Apple’s ARKit. iFITS does not record, save or send camera images. You can turn camera access off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera, and the rest of the app keeps working.

Settings

Your app settings (for example, whether Autosave is on) are stored only on your iPad.

When you use the Share button or “Export and Send”, you choose where the file or picture goes (for example Mail, Messages or AirDrop). What happens after that is covered by the privacy policy of the app or service you choose.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
